We Believe: Week 2
Opening Question
Do you consider yourself a “creator”? What is something you do that brings you joy? Would you consider that an act of creativity? (And just in case you think you are not creative…consider that the act of hitting a ball with a stick has created many sports and a lot of entertainment throughout history…)
Background
See Week 1
Creed Section
Consider this portion of the Creed as we read the Bible passage from Genesis:
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible.
Read
Genesis 1:24-31
Ask someone to read this aloud, and then allow silence for everyone to reflect on the passage.
Discussion
1. Where there any words that need defining or any questions other questions? Does anyone have a translation that paints a different picture?
2. How does Genesis 1 relate to the section of the Nicene Creed?
3. How do you see God acting like a father in Genesis 1? How do you see him acting like a creator? When you consider God, do you find yourself drawn to one of those titles (father and creator) more? Why or why not?
4. What does it mean to you to know or consider that you were created intentionally, lovingly, and as a son or daughter of God (ie, in his image)? How can a truth like that change a life (or how has it changed yours)?
*As you go out this week, create some space to consider the image you hold of God. Is he loving? Is he interested in your days and in the things that matter to you? Does he call you very good? Do you need to preach these truths to yourself as much as you need to share them with others?
Prayer
Close in prayer for one another’s journeys of belief and any other prayer requests that are offered to the group.
Announcements
