Sent: Moses

These questions are written to be used during our house church meeting in Katy on Tuesday nights and in Sugar Land on Wednesday nights. If you find yourself unable or attend a gathering this week we encourage you to use these questions at home to sink more deeply into this vision series.

Background:  This week we look at Moses. Moses was born in Egypt to Hebrew parents, who set him afloat on the Nile in a reed basket to save him from an edict calling for the death of all newborn Hebrew males. Found by the pharaoh’s daughter, he was reared in the Egyptian court. After killing a brutal Egyptian taskmaster, he fled to Midian, where Yahweh (God) revealed himself in a burning bush and called Moses to deliver the Israelites from Egypt.

Icebreaker: If God wanted to tell you something right now, what do you think it would be and how would he get that message to you?

Read and Reflect: Read Exodus 3:1-15
Take a moment to get your bearings; look at the surrounding stories by reading the subtitles around this week’s passage. Don’t be afraid to ask for clarification or definitions for new words and ideas. Listening to other translations of the Bible can both clarify and enrich the meanings of these readings.

Discussion:
1. What is your initial reaction to what is happening in this passage(s)? What questions do you have?
2. What does God's invitation to draw near the burning bush tell us about who God is?
3. How does God explain who He is? What was Moses’ reaction?
3. What message does God have for Moses? What does this tell us about the character and heart of God?
4. What is Moses asking for when he asks God for His Name? What is the significance about the response  “I Am Who I Am” say about God?

Go Deeper:
5. God sends Moses as part of his plan to save his people. Today, he invites and calls Christians to continue to be part of his plan to save the world. Have you ever felt called by God to a particular task or role? What was/is that task/role? How did you respond, and why?

Prayer:
Pray for the families in your house church and the people on your Top Five cards.
