Church on the Move: Week 1 — The Mission Begins
Church on the Move: Week 1 — The Mission Begins
- Read Acts 1:1–11 together as a group.
Discussion
- What stands out to you from Acts 1:1–11 and the video?
- Luke says his Gospel recorded what Jesus “began to do and teach.” What does that tell us about what Jesus is continuing to do in Acts—and through His Church today
- The disciples ask Jesus, “Will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” How does Jesus redirect their attention in verses 7–8? What does that tell us about the mission He gives His Church?
- Jesus promises the power of the Holy Spirit before telling the disciples they will be His witnesses. Why is that order important?
- Jesus says, “You will be my witnesses,” rather than simply telling them to go do something. What does it mean for being a witness to Jesus to be part of who we are as His people?
- Jesus describes the Gospel moving from Jerusalem → Judea → Samaria → the ends of the earth. Where has God already placed you to be a witness to Jesus in your everyday life?
- Give everyone an index card or piece of paper. Take a moment quietly and ask the Lord: “Who are You sending me toward this week?”
- Write down one name. Not someone you need to fix. Not someone you need to argue with. Someone you can intentionally love, pray for, encourage, serve, invite, or share Christ with.
- Then consider: What is one intentional step you can take toward that person this week? Mission often begins with one person.
- Spend time praying together.
- Pray specifically: For the people whose names you wrote down. For the Holy Spirit to give you courage and opportunities to be faithful witnesses. For your House Church to recognize where Jesus is already at work around you. For The Gathering Church to be a people sent into our families, friendships, neighborhoods, workplaces, and community.
- For God to use this study through Acts to form us into a Church on the Move.Close by praying together:
- Lord Jesus, thank You that You are still at work and that You invite us to participate in Your mission. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit and make us faithful witnesses. Open our eyes to the people You have already placed around us, and give us courage to love them well and point them toward You. Use our lives, our House Church, and our whole church family for the spread of the Gospel and the glory of Your name. Amen.
